Target audience and purpose.

In order for my story to be relevant and to have a purpose for the project marking scheme it needs to have a target market, addressing a problem that needs to be solved.  Seen as I want my story to be how mankind has effected the earth, and its environment. I started to look at sites involving environmental change and coming to the conclusion that these sites talk of what will happen to our world but very few show it, which may not have much of an impact on people that are more visually focused.

I could focus this animation on some key areas for inspiration, such as: Climate Change and Political issues, showing future generations what the world may be like if they do not change the way the world operates. Even though this is a great area to look into, will it be the right one? Only time will tell.

Testing out 3D programs

I am starting some early experimentation with 3D modelling and polypainting. This is to practice what I will be hopefully be later using within my animations.

Talking about the Brief

This project will run along side other projects I have planned, however this project will get most of my attention in the upcoming months. I want this project to be directed heavily towards different animation techniques such as two dimensional and three dimensional. The reason I want to explore this is purely so I can better understand 3D modelling, rigging and polypainting(texturing). I want to do this because I want a job within the creative sector of the game industry, so I need something to show employers that I am more than capable of creating complex 3D models and animating them to a high standard.

However I also have a passion for creating 2D environments, objects and characters, I would like to implement these into my final outcome as well, mixing 3D and 2D togeather to create a unique final product.

Although I want to use both these styles, I still need a narrative to use them within. This has yet to be fully realised, however a brief overview of mine is to set it somewhere interesting, somewhat beleviable  and relatively new. With the lack of oil in the world and the threat of weather patterns changing, I want to set a story around these ideals. Not too centuries in the future, but far enough for it to still be relevant.

The story/stories I want to tell will be simple, set in events occurring at the time, but not heavily focusing on them. I believe taking this approach will be more believable and natural, for example I don't want a character saying "Life got so much easier since we got these laser knives 10 years ago, I can't believe Dr. Xine came up with the idea while trying to design a new type of rotary system for jets." *while rowing a boat* It would seem too out of place and cheesy.

The story I want to tell takes place in the near future, when oil has been depleted almost everywhere. All countries have mass depression and only the wealthy can afford fuel and luxury goods. Riots are in effect and countries and governments are falling apart in and around Europe. Adding to all this distress are unpredictable weather patterns. America suffering the most from the depression, due to its government that is driven by consumerism, not being able to sustain itself.

All governments from the wealthier european countries use their last remaining resources to heavily fund an outsourced project, this project is directed towards creating a new readily available energy source. However America and its supporters don't see the benefit of pumping what resources it has left into a pipe dream.

America however has found a large oil pocket deep underground, keeping this secret from the rest of the world to avoid charity and general outcry from other countries. European counrties  inevitably find out about the secrecy, asking the American government for aid in desperate time. The president claims "Desperate times? Desperate times call desperate measures, America hereby resigns itself from world affairs, we no longer have any interest in helping other countries, when we can barley help our citizens. We must put the interests of the American people above that of other countries, because desperate times, do indeed call for desperate measures." After this America is kicked out of NATO, and the United Nations, becoming a closed off country to the rest of the world.
